I don't know what I have. I have run my Norton Internet Security several times... and one time it did pick up the Winfixer, we deleted it but the problem didn't go away. Now we run Norton and it doesn't find anything and we still have our problem. We have run Ad-Aware SE and it picks up problems and we delete them, and still have our problem. Something has changed our home page on IE to some system security page trying to get us to buy "their" security products. It is frustrating and I just don't know what it is. So, I am not sure how to remove it. We also tried doing a system restore after we removed the Winfixer, but it said that it was incomplete and couldn't perform it. I am not sure if this thing is preventing us from doing it or what, but please help us. I have never had an attack this complex. Thanks

I notice from your log that you are running two different Anti-Virus programs with Auto-Protect enabled!

(Norton and McAfee)

Rather than giving you extra protection, this can significantly reduce the performance and effectiveness of both programs as they all too often conflict with each other.

I would strongly advise you to only have one Anti-Virus with the Auto-Protect feature running at any one time!

I would advise you to disable the "Auto-Protect" feature of one of your Anti-Virus programs. Although when updating your virus definitions, don't forget to update both scanners!

If you decide to only keep one Anti-Virus installed,
you should uninstall the other(s) through the Add or Remove Programs option in Control Panel.

Download ATF Cleaner

• Save it to your Desktop.
• Do not run it yet. We will use this later.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware

• Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
• Follow the prompts. Once installed, open the program.
• On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
  • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
  • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
  • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
• Click on the Settings tab.
  • Under How to act? click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
  • Under How to scan? all boxes should be selected.
  • Under Possibly unwanted software: all boxes should be checked.
  • Under Reports: click on Automatically generate report after every scan.
  • Under What to scan? select Scan every file.
• Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

I notice from your log that you are running two different Anti-Virus programs with Auto-Protect enabled!

(Norton and McAfee)

Rather than giving you extra protection, this can significantly reduce the performance and effectiveness of both programs as they all too often conflict with each other.

I would strongly advise you to only have one Anti-Virus with the Auto-Protect feature running at any one time!

I would advise you to disable the "Auto-Protect" feature of one of your Anti-Virus programs. Although when updating your virus definitions, don't forget to update both scanners!

If you decide to only keep one Anti-Virus installed,
you should uninstall the other(s) through the Add or Remove Programs option in Control Panel.

Sorry for taking a little bit to reply... been a little busy. I don't have a McAfee virus scanner, I have a firewall.... but it is disabled, not sure why it was shown running. I tried to delete it from my programs through the add/remove... but when I did it did something to my system and I had to put it back (through a system restoral) It was last year when I got the Norton when this happened. So, I just disabled and turned off the firewall.. it is weird, but system runs pretty fast....
