When I restarted my computer the screen went black and said "Alert system batter voltage is low" I have no idea what that means. Also it gave me the option to press f1 or f2. It told me to press f2 to go to some kind of system option. I looked at what it said when i pressed f2 and i didnt want to mess with the settings untill i knew what to do. Please help me.

Yes it is a dell, xp. I dont know what a surge protecter is but if it is basic on a dell then i would have it, and if it is a battery going flat are they expensive to replace?

Hi Revenga
Could you please tell me the model of your dell computer.
A surge protector goes between your wall outlet and your computer.
They can look a bit like a power board or a double adapter. you plug your computer in to this and then this plugs into the wall outlet

If you have one of these then that could be giving the error message. If not then we will have to look at replacing your onboard battery. They are not expensive - much like a watch battery.

No i don't have a surge protecter. Should I get one? And all the information I could find for now is .....

Is there anything on the case saying Dell Dimension e520 or 9200 etc
or Optiplex we really need a model number
this should be on the outside of the case
Desktop or Laptop?

Go to this website and click on the tab that says original configuration. You can then put in your service tag info (The service tag is a five- to seven- digit alphanumeric code) and it will tell you your system info. The service tag should be found on a sticker on the side or back of your system.

Once you put in that number, it shoud bring up the info on your particular system. Tell us what is says for the system type.

My guess is that its probably the CMOS battery going bad.

Go to this site and it will tell you step by step what you need to do. I would print out the instructions and diagrams so you can refer to them as your doing it.

OH....forgot to mention this....you really need to get a surge protector after you get this problem fixed. I have seen numerous systems get messed up after surges in their power line.

Have you looked over the instructions for replaceing the battery? Do you think that is somthing you would be comfortable with doing yourself?

Yes I did look over the instructions. Ill need to look inside my compter first to see if i would be able to and i probably can. My main problem with that is that I dont know where to get the battery. Would a "Staples" have them, or just a basic compuer store?
