Freeware to rip a clip of a DVD to my hard drive?

Anybody know of any freeware available to copy a portion or an entire DVD to my hard drive in mpg, avi, or other movie form?

I don't think the FBI is much interested in a fan-shot dvd of a pearl jam concert

It is not the FBI that you would be suing you, it would be the record lable and the band. However after checking into it Pearl Jam is one of the few bands that actually allows you to film their productions and even distibute the complation as long as you do not profit from the transaction. However keep in mind that most bands do not allow you to film or record them and if you do it is a criminal offense.
