When i log on and all items load on desktop each time i try to use one of the items such as hotmail shortcut computer stops responding or after a long wait i get message cannot locate desktop item.....also have noticed alot of processes running.some of them duplicated

System restore for some reason will only go back a week so its no help......ive been told to kust reinstall windosxp but my computer came with software installed and no disc....way to go hpackard,,,

they sometimes have the hard drive partitioned with the restore to factory condition on the second partition...read the screen when you first power up the computer and look for something that says something like press F12 to restore...it will put the computer back to the way it was the day you got it...you will lose any data and updates though....soooo back up anything you can't live without before trying that option...
