Hiya, my hubby's laptop wont connect to the internet anymore it was last night beofre he installed a load of windows updates, & now its comes up with error 711 ?? ive not got a clue what to do please help thanx Cherie X

Hiya, Well for a start forgot to mention that the laptop in question wont start up in anything other than safemode?? & he says he cant remember if his comp said those error's that u have asked about, I'm not currently at home & he's a total computer dope so i cant help anymore on that sorry

Error 711: Cannot load Remote Access Service Connection Manager.

To resolve this issue, enable the disabled services, and then start the services:

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

2. Double-click Services and Applications, and then double-click Services.

3. Right-click Telephony, and then click Properties.

4. On the General tab, click Manual next to Startup type.

5. On the General tab, click Start under Service status, and then click OK.

6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 for the Remote Access Connection Manager service and for the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service.

Hiya, i asked him to do as you said but the cmputer said the following

"COULD NOT START THE TELEPHONY SERVICE ON LOCAL COMPUTER. ERROR 1084:THIS SERVICE CAN NOT BE STARTED IN SAFE MODE"

Run this, then re-visit the updates, which updates did he install?

Start the System Restore Utility at a command prompt

1. Restart your computer, and keep tapping F8 during the initial start-up until you get options, select Safe Mode with a Command Prompt then press enter.

2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.

3. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

Look for the most recent system checkpoint created before the errors to restore from

Hiya, He said that the system restore can't have been on as the only place he could restore it to was when the updates were download?? So he chose thast point to restore it to, then the laptop restarted but when he chose noraml mode he said a blue screen comes on with an error msg but turns the computer off b4 he has time to read the msg ?

Have you got an XP CD

Just asked him n he said yeah he does but it wont work because the cd-rom drive isnt working so he's bought an external one which for some reason when he puts the disk in it , he get the msg "COULD NOT READ Q DRIVE"

Did it just stop working, does it differentiate between audio CD's and the XP CD

he says its working now the options its come up with is :

install optionaly windows components
perform additional tasks
check system compatability

Good, this will remove the updates but leave the documents etc alone

You can use this guide to repair XP

Possibly, you will need to press the start button and keep tapping the delete key, (possibly F2) until the PC enters set up. Change the boot order to CD ROM Drive then hard drive, press F10 then press enter, load the XP CD then type Y then press enter, as it reboots, look for press any key to load from CD, press enter

You will need your XP product key to complete this

The XP Product Key is a 25 character alpha numerical code, which does not include the sequence OEM

If you have audio / video files which are subject to DRM you should check with the provider for known issues with performing an XP repair install
