Okay, I have an idiot for a friend.

She found out how to hack the start button to change the text, however I've come up with a serious error. Explorer.exe won't load! The only things that show up when I log in is the desktop background, and I can use the Windows Task Manager, but thats about it. I can't right click or anything at all. I tried restarting it, and this computer is essential for my business.

Is there anything I can do?

Its a Microsoft XP SP2 Toshiba laptop if that helps...

In task manager, click file, new task, type explorer.exe then click OK, you should get the desktop icons, if so, reboot to check it loads correctly

If not, in task manager, click file, new task, type sfc /scannow then click OK

All right, I'll try that. I don't have desktop icons though, I used a trick to hide them since we have so many. Would system restore work too from an earlier point? My employee just did that a second ago when I wasn't watching.

The taskbar is back now, thanks!
Do I have to do this every time or are there more steps?

If you reboot and it loads properly, then fine, if not, run sfc /scannow to replace the system files
