Hi all,

For my first post on here, I thought I'd ask a question I've had for a long time with PDFs: Is there a way to highlight text in a PDF and save the highlight? (I don't mean selecting text in order to copy it to another application). Or, is there a way to make notes in the margins or post "stickies" on the pages?

I ask because I download a lot of scientific articles in PDF format, and I'd love to have a way to make notes right on the PDF, rather than have to print it out. No one I've asked seems to know how to accomplish this. Any suggestions?

In Adobe Reader, you can add comments only if additional usage rights that enable commenting are added to the PDF document by Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional or Acrobat server products. Otherwise, commenting tools aren't available.

Right, I knew that part. But I'm wondering if there is something outside the realm of Adobe out there.... There are plenty of other PDF readers (e.g. I use Foxit), so perhaps someone has made a small editor that can do the kind of thing I suggest.

If nothing like this exists, then it ought too! There is an enormous need for a tool like this among people I talk to.... I just don't have the requisite skills to design it.
