Have a Dell 8400 with Samsung DVD Rom SD616E. WIll not read CD's, data or music. Light blinks for a short while, then goes off. When clicking on the drive (D) a screen comes up saying "Please insert disk into drive". Removed it and then let Windows re-install it, still does not work. Down loaded a update from Dell, but still does not work. It appears to be a bad drive, and will probably have to be replaced. Please advise, thanks.

Before going out and replacing, I would try to troubleshoot it: http://www.zappersof...hoot-cdrom.html.

If that fails, is your computer still under warranty? If so, you can contact Dell and try to get them to send you a new drive.

Last and if all else fails, cd/dvd drives are extremely cheap nowadays.
