my USB has suddenly stopped working..
i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB controllers which didnt fix the problem...

i have XP and a gigabyte 2004 GT edition board...

can you please help me out....if you require more information just ask..

Another member switched the PC off, removed the plug for a few minutes then plugged it back in

You may want to remove the USB leads for this then plug them in when windows has loaded

my device manager shows USB is connected but they are just not working

What exactly happens when you connect a USB device to the ports on the back of the machine, and what devices have you tried thus far?

wen i connect nothing happens....my printer is connected via USB and it doesnt print...i have tried mp3 players, flash disks, card readers and data cables...nothing works....

When you connect your printer to the computer, do you hear any of the Windows tones indicating that a new USB device has been connected, or do you get a little "safely remove hardware" option down in the system tray?

nah dont get any of the tones or anything...its like the USB ports are fried or something...they dont recognise anything but the device manager says they are present

It's possible that the ports themselves are, in fact, defective. Do you have any USB ports wired to the board (via PCI, or by leads attached to pins on the motherboard) other than the 4 or so on the back?

yeh got a few more wired to pins on the motherboard and a pci card aswell i think
