-----Right now I am posting in this forum with another pc. Not the infected one that needs help-----

I recently(yesterday) intalled MSN Pluss. I checked the net for any side effects like virus\malware from MSN pluss, but all the pages i checked said that I only get malware if I accept the sponsor program. So I installed msn pluss without the sponsor program. Then I thougt I'd check hijackthis just to see i anything has changed, but Hijackthis closed when i ran it. It comes to the hijackthis welcome screen( where it says "scan only", "scan and save log") then it closes. And the same hapend when i went to geekstogo forums. The word hijackthis was there so the browser closed. I tried mozilla with the same result. So i suspected MSN pluss. I uninstalled it.

- I tried systemrestore to one month earlier point. Same result with hijackthis(maybe virus already was there for a long time. Maybe MSN Pluss wasnt the problem?).
- I undid the restore
- I ran Spybot and found Smitfraud.
- I ran SmitfraudFIX in safe mode and now smitfraud is gone(spybot did not detect any smitfraud anymore)

Still hijacktis does not work.

- When i was running Ad - Aware SE Trend Micro came with 4 notifications of infected files.
Detections NAMES: JAVA BYTEVER.AB
JAVA BYTEVER.A
JAVA BYTEVER.AC

Ad - Aware scan log:

ADWARE.LINKOPTIMIZER (quarantined and not detected in second scan)

Lets check something out real quick.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
c:\windows\canonsensor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\aux.rwx

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengers actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Let me know when you get a chance to run the F-Secure scanner,I know the time difference will make things a bit slower now but atleast I think the main threats are taken care off.

Free programs that may help you in keeping the PC clean
  • SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
    You can download SpywareBlaster here
A tutorial can be found here
  • SpywareGuard

A tutorial can be found here
  • IE-SPYAD
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. It basically prevents any downloads, cookies, scripts from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
    You can download IE-SPYAD here
A tutorial can be found here
  • Hosts File
A Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad, spyware sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
A tutorial tutorial can be found here
  • MVPS Hosts File
You can download the MVPS Hosts File here
Furthermore the website contains useful tips and links to other resources and utilities.
  • Bluetack's Hosts File and Hosts Manager
Essentially based on the research made by Webhelper, Andrew Clover and Eric L. Howes, it contains most if not all the known spyware sites, sites responsible for hijacks, rogue apllications etc...
    Download Bluetack's Hosts file here
    Download Bluetack's HostsManager here

Security against all kinds of dialers. No fear when receiving the next phone bill.
  • Trojans and Keyloggers

Use an AntiVirus Software

It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See the link below for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs.
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
http://forum.malware...pic.php?p=53#53

Update your Anti Virus Software

It is imperative that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall

I can not stress enough how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below.
