I got an IBM computer with a copied version of XP. Needless to say it does not work as we do not have the auth code to call in to microsoft to activate. How do I delete xp and install windows 2000?

can i uninstall xp without losing any data on the current partition?
if yes, how do i do it? <_<

ps : i know a stupid way of doing it- move the data to another partition (say E).
format the current partition and re-install an OS & use the OS to move the data
from E to current partition.

i am sure there is a better way. Please reply and tell me how.

Try this guide:

Of course, you could always purchase a valid copy of XP, and perform a repair installation. <_<
