CD ROM won't open

I am having trouble getting my CD ROM to work. If I open "MY COMPUTER" the "D" drive is there. If I click on "EJECT this disk" nothing happens (ecept my computer slows WAY down. If I click on the button to open it on the PC the light comes on but nothing happens. Then if I go back to "my computer" the "D" drive is gone. This is AGGREVATING due to I have new programs to add to my computer and am unable to do so. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It is not worth the trouble to try getting cdrom drives working when they quit. It is far easier to buy a new drive from newegg and take the half hour to install it. It is not that hard to do.

try using the device manager to uninstall the drive...reboot and let windows "find" the new hardware...windows should then reinstall the cd drive and the drivers it needs...
