Wondows XP Logon

When I boot up, all seems well. Then I get to the click user screen and click the user...

Then the PC seems to be doing something but does not load anything, not even my desktop icons and freezes.

I then have to re-boot and sometimes on the 3rd go it loads.

Any ideas or help appreciated

guess you could try tapping f8 right after you push on turn on button

then choose last good configuration

You can check if any errors are reported by typing devmgmt.msc in the Run window and then going under Event viewer. One of the four catogeries should contain errors pointing to a specific service or file.
