Hijack this - but really afraid to use it save for the things I know for sure are malware.
Recently installed (because of problems unresolved, as back up)x cleaner - free
Internet Service - Broad Band- DSL
Main Browser - Moailla FireFox version 2 (as of two nights ago, when I used the now older version)
Second browser - IE 7[stinks] (as of last week, running IE 6.5 before)
Problems:
Beginning a few weeks ago, I had experienced slower than normal start ups. Then my calculator program told me that I had to install it when I opened it with a desk top icon. It presented an install program i never saw and, it was the standard Microsoft calculator.
I had installed the McAfee virtual tech. It told me that there was a problem in the registry about the spamkiller. I clicked fix, it said it was repaired, then on rescans, it told me it needed repair again (so starts the circle, I click fix, rescan, needs fixed).
After this, my music files started to go one by one (a Trojan and music critic?) MP3s are also not supposed to skip, and mine are on a few files.
Yesterday, it ate the McAfee virtual tech program, show the same install window that I experienced with the calculator.
Today, the mouse is acting out on its own. as it seems. To add, I also ran ewido, mcafee and spysweeper in safe mode. The only program that appeared to be working is spyware, as both ewido and mcafee stated that they were disabled, but I ran the scan anyway. Only Spysweeper came up with a few cookies, no big deal.
I have run the trend micro, symantic, McAfee, Ewido on line scans....all clean. All my installed and paid malware scan every day at times of the day, an hour apart each....all clean, save cookies that ewido picks up. I have also tried other free mal ware removers, then wiped them after they said system was clean.
I would like to catch this thing before it eats the entire machine.
