Hi. I've checked that there's a closed topic about this but, as it is instructed there, I don't dare to do any move until some experts tell me so. Well, there is this protection bar on my Internet explorer that simply can't be deleted. My homepage which was originally set to MSN has also changed to a malware kinda website and I can't change it back to MSN no matter what. Can someone please tell me what to do with this please? :whistling: Thank youuu....

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :whistling:
In order to help you we need to see what's running on your computer.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I would recommend that you uninstall Logitech Desktop Manager. It's not malware, but it does put an unnecessary strain on your system.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log.

Hi, Sam! Thanks for helping me with this. Actually I have downloaded and run SmitfraudFix, HijackThis, and Spybot S&D. And the log that I posted earlier on was the result after I ran all those. I was just wondering if it is now clear and safe because I do not understand a word what the log is saying. Thank you in advance.. :whistling:

Oh btw, I use Logitech Web Camera pretty often for MSN and take quick captures. Would removing the Logitech Desktop Manager have any effect on the function of the camera itself?

No, it won't have any effect on your Logitech programs. Logitech Desktop Manager automatically checks for software upgrades and new products, services and special offerings from Logitech. The updates are very few and far between, so it basically tries to sell you new products, services, and offerings. I know I wouldn't want it on my computer. :whistling:

Your hijackthis log is not clean, so that's why I asked for the log from Smitfraudfix. I'm willing to take your word for it that all the bad files and folders have been removed, so we'll move on to the next steps.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Note: You may get an error from hijackthis. Don't worry about it, but let me know in your next reply.
