After daily issues with the XPS 700 out-of-the-box, I finally had enough and contacted DELL Technical Support, resulting in three (3) re-installations of the OS. I fear I’m heading toward a fourth, and on a new system that just strikes me as completely ridiculous. The present issue began yesterday and concerns my External Hard Drive a MAXTOR 5000. Suddenly, the drive has been reading quite slow, and getting hung-up by, at last count, three (3) different files. When I click-on to open any of the files in question the response time is very slow, and when it finally allows me to access the file I receive a Windows Explorer Error, indicating the name of the file and this message: “The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.” I’ve contacted DELL and spent some time with a very diligent Tech, but without resolution. We plan to continue tomorrow. I’m wondering if anyone in the forum can assist me with a resolution with this issue prior to tomorrow? Much obliged! JC
