What a neat resource this looks like - Frustrated -I have reviewed all steps for malware detection and removal posted here.
I run Win 98SE on a 3-4 year old Compaq .
First, when I start PC, severeal instances of iexplorer seem to load - 8-12 shown in task manager, and the following other msgs appear:

Error Starting Program
The WININET.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:SHRegGetValueW.

Szupvr
\This program has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down

C\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Start up\fkkgph.exe
C\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Start up\fkkgph.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning

RUNDLL
Error loading stbl2.dll
A device attached to the system is not functioning

RUNDLL
Error loading DOCEOC16B1
The system cannot find the file specified

RUNDLL
Error loading E61F873B.DLL
A device attached to the system is not functioning

I cannot connect to internet, so downloaded from another pc and copied and ran Winsock2Fix for Windows 98/98SE/ME. On reboot, same msgs as above appear.

Still no internet connection, however, I downloaded and copied all othger suggested programs as well.

When attempting to run ad aware I get following msgs:
Error Starting Program
The WININET.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:SHRegGetValueW.
And
C\Program files\Lavasoft\Adware personlaSE\Ad-Aware.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning

I attempted to run CCleaner and got following msg:

Ccleaner
This program has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down

I ran HiJack this to get a log file pasted below - Any hope for my PC?
Thanks bunches if my PC is not too far gone...- Scott

Coachwife6 - Thank you for your response!
I have been working with my PC - Ran HiJack This and checked and fixed listed items; Deleted hidden files; WHen attempting to run ad aware I get the following messages:

Error Starting Program
The WININET.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:SHRegGetValueW.
And
C\Program files\Lavasoft\Adware personlaSE\Ad-Aware.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning
So I am stuck unable to scan ...
I tried re-downloading adaware to no avail. I must be missing some item to remove, but kept a careful checklist...
Any Ideas?
Thanks again if you have the patience!
Scott

You are using an old version of Hijack This. Use the one you ran the first time. The one you ran won't pick up the latest threats.

Press control>>alt>>delete and stop this process.

PRUTTCT.exe This is interfering with you running spybot and adware.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Macafee is out of date and running, though I have shut is off when doing stuff to the computor.
3DFX allows openG gaming with the voodoo card. I'm not a gamer, so I could toss it, so long as other graphic capabilities would not be bothered.
I am HAPPY to shuck anything that's not needed!

I checked and fixed R1,
Still can't run CCLeaner
and here is the new log:
