Hi Folkes
I keep getting alerts from Norton (Internet Security 2006) saying that Spy Destroy virus has been detected. I have fiollowed Norton's guidelines to remove it which involves deleting keys from registry. But, I found no files in my registry that were relevant. I did have Spybot search and destroy on my pc but have ubninstalled that and now installed Ad aware SE as i thought maybe it was realted to the spybot programme. But I have since had the same alerts from norton. I cannot find any information relation to this virus and i just don't know how i can find/remobve it. Please help!!

Cheers

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :whistling:
In order to help you we need to see what's running on your computer.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

There's not too much that concerns me there, but let's clean up a few things.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

It may have trouble running with Norton. Skip that step for now and go ahead with Combofix.

Let's try a different online scan.

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
  • Follow the Instruction on the F-Secure page for proper installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Are you still getting notification from Norton that you are infected?
