Problems Playing Music

Just recently I bought a remote control for Windows Media Center. So I started using the media center for the first time. Before I was just using Media Player. I'm having problems listening to music. I've added the files but they are displayed as unknown. If you select one of them (unknown album) there is nothing to play. I'll admit that some of this stuff is from downloading applications but some of it is also what I've ripped from cd's myself. Everything works perfectly with Media player so I don't understand where the problem.

Any ideas?
