Hi Trevuren,

Thanks for the help in advance and sorry about cutting the end of the log off. can i just add the reason i still have concerns is when i try to close down my pc it takes 2 or 3 minutes before the close, standbye and restart options appear and the mouse icon turns to the egg timer. It's like some thing is running in the back ground but nothing look's wrong in taskmanager. Anyway hears the fresh logs. Also as previously mentioned this pc Mighty Max program still shows in my add and remove program list but not in any third party utilities list as you can see with the list posted. If i click on it i get no options to do anything

Your log looks pretty clean. Just some tidying up to be done. It is not uncommon for PCs running Windows to perform as yours does upon shutdown. With the myriad of applications that you have running on startup, it is bound to take quite a long time to shut them all down. My machine is the same.

A. You need to update the version of Java that is currently on your system
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 from HERE
    • Scroll down to where it says "Windows Offline Installation"
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Once the program has finished downloading:
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
  • Go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
    • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
    • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
      Downloaded Applications

Hi trevuren

I've followed your instructions, the only thing i couldn't do was delete mighty max throught uninstall manager as it doesn't show in the installed program list. Although it does still throught add and remove programs but with no options when highlighted.

Here's a new log i've also disables a couple of things at startup to see if it helps the shut down process

A. SpywareBlaster and AVG AntiSpyware guard are compatible. I have both running on my machine without any problem.

B.
Using Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E), drill down to C:\Program Files and try to locate a folder that refers to Mighty Max and DELETE it.

C. 1. Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from HERE to your desktop.

You will find it about 2/3 down the page.

2. Start the program by clicking on its icon and paste in the following string: Mightmy Max.

3. Wait for it to complete the search, click ok at the prompt.

4. Then when notepad opens, copy/paste the text as a reply into this thread.

5. If you don't get any hits, try using the script by putting the string between quotation marks"Might Max" and run a new script

D. Please disable AVG AntiSpyware by opening the program and on the Status page - beside "Resident Shield" click on "change status" so that it says "inactive" for it may interfere with our HJT fix.
  • Remember to reactivate this feature when all our work is finished.

E. Please RUN HijackThis
  • Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzwr32 - winzwr32.dll (file missing)

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in this thread so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.

Hi trevuren,

Done as instructed I think i managed to uninstalled Mighty Max before i posted the first log can't remember the utility used but it was a free download.

I maybe should have made that clear earlier sorry but it does still show as said in my add and remove programs but in no 3rd party utilities. was wondering how to delete the reference from my add and remove programs hope you follow what i mean.

I previously deleted all reference in program files and the registry using regedit the one showing in the scrip log is just a web search i done i think. here's a fresh hjt log and the vb script logt

Hi Scott,

Sorry that this response has taken so long but my computer got totally fried and I am just getting back online after the repair and all the reinstalling.

Try the following:

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Once the Registry Editor opens, please do the following:
  • Highlight My Computer
  • From the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.
  • Choose your desktop as the destination
  • Under Export Range, choose "ALL"
  • Use Sysreg as the file name
  • Click Save and EXIT the Registry Editor once the operation is completed
If a restore of the registry is required, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successful.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fixme.reg.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-117609710-1580818891-1801674531-1003\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]
"001"=-

3. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

4. Reboot your computer.

5. Please tell me if this helped.

Regards,

Hi Trevuren,

Thanks for the continuing effort to solve my problem. firstly pc mighty max still shows in my add and remove programs is their a way to remove it using dos ????? I do beleive we have removed it from my system but the reference to it is still their i've also scanned sys reg for any ref to pc mighty max and do not find it there so thats good.

Secondly the issue about slow logoff i've discovered it's due to a dcom issue after checking event viewer here's the message i get

The server {9B1F122C-2982-4E91-AA8B-E071D54F2A4D} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

it would appear after scanning the web for severall hours it's connected to windows update i also think pc mighty max was the cause of this as it never happened before this was installed, here is a link to what i found and i followed the adsvise, it works at the time but when i reboot and use my pc for any length of time back comes the error message again and the slow logoff. Trying to determine if there's any connection between an app i'm using and the error kicking in but so far none just seems the longer i'm on.

the link i followed

This maybe not in your rermit as your more syware etc, so maybe should post a new log on hardware/sofware forum anyway will wait on your reply before doing so.

and again thanks for all the help :whistling:

Well Done Scott :whistling: And you are correct. I am strictly malware

Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Please DELETE Malicious Items from the Ewido v4 Quarantine

A. Open Ewido by double clicking its icon located in the System Tray down by the clock.

B. Click on "Infections" on the Ewido Toolbar, then select the "Quarantine Tab"

C. Choose "Select All" at the bottom of the Ewido window, then click on the "Remove Finally" button and EXIT the program.

2. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

3. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
  • Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
  • Left click on "System Restore Tab"
  • Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
  • Left click on "Apply"
Reboot your System

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
  • Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
  • Click on "Apply"
Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)

Regards,

Trevuren
