cd will not play/burn?

Have I posted in the appropriate section? It seems I cannot play a cd now.Bizzare as I had played and burned before. I had opened real player and recordNow and got message saying couldnt find.....Please assist.FYI....please give idiot proof instructions..

Click start, right click my computer, click properties, hardware, device manager

What have you got listed for CD ROM drives

sorry ran to store but back for 2 hrs...Ok its a matshita ujda760 dvd/cdrw...BUT it has a yellow exclamation point nect to it.I tried followed the troubleshoot instructions and uninstalled and then it found the device but it was the same thing yellow exclamation point...

Click start then run, type regedit then press enter

See if you have this key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

You click the + next to each of those parts

Post back if you do

had HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
but didnt see SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} next to it
was I supposed to click the + just next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
i did but didnt see
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

this is really complicated for me cant I just re-install the proper driver or whatever with my recovery disk?

Have you got registry protection like Go Back or Tea Timer running? Applications like that may have to be disabled to edit the registry.

Are you logged onto an Admin account?
