I got myself a laptop, but the modem and sound drivers not working... this is the driver cd that came with the pc...

they once worked but not now...

i got Windows XP SP1 and the regular programs installed on it...

can u help me?

first to test if drivers are missing

runbox command
- press keyboard buttons: winkey + r
- paste this in slot: devmgmt.msc
- press: enter
- see if any of the icons have yellow blobs on them
(if they do means drivers are missing)

if you have the installation cd, the drivers will be on it
if you haven't then go to the maker's site and download the drivers using model number, if you job post back here

once you have the drivers

to reinstall driver

runbox command
- press keyboard buttons: winkey + r
- paste this in slot: devmgmt.msc
- press: enter
- right hand click the drive that corresponds to your device
- choose and click: uninstall
- right hand click the drive that corresponds to your device
- choose and click: scan for hardward changes
- if prompted browse to the place of driver
- press enter
- restart the computer and repeat process

When you say right click to Drive that corresponds to dah dah dah

it is not a drive of any sort...

i did that on the driver though but same problem....

The laptop is a Z61A....

yes you are right, it is the icon that corresponds to you device, not the disk, I cheated and just used another of my canned for your question thinking it was the same process without noticing it mentioning disk and not icon so one uninstalls the icon, in this case the sound, and the modem, and then the right hand click: search for new material, to which you will either browse to your CD( you said you had one) or the place where you have now downloaded the lastest driver for sound and modem.

clear as mud I guess but simply
- make sure you have the drivers beforehand
- reinstall drivers in devmgmt.msc(in the way I mentioned)


anyway, it is just a standard replacing the present or missing driver with a newly downloaded one, post back if you are having problems

Ok....i got the sound and modem drivers working......

what i did was i installed something else from the disc and it suddenly began to work.....

so dumb....you got a menu with a modem and a audio driver, but the real working driver is under another name i knows nothing about....


Anyways......

The remaining problem is that my wireless is not working.....

i went to the airport that has wireless and i tried to connect, but i did not get through....

someone else went and they got through....the airport has wireless even in the carpark and i am not picking up anything...

i also got the windows wireless management, the driver software for it, wireless mon software and network stumbler.....

that cannot cause a problem, cause it did not work with a fresh install with only the drivers and the windows software....
