go to add printer and choose network printer and then browse for the printer on that computer. Both computers need to be on the same workgroup to be able to see each other.

After you double click on Microsoft Windows Network, it should show you your workgroup, and after clicking on that, it should show you the other computer.

well i cant double click it
i i tried clickin next, it said to type a printer name
when i did that, it said that windows cannot connect to the printer. Etither the printer name was typed incorrectly or the specified printer has lost connection to the server.

should i install the printer drivers to the laptop?

no, you won't need to install the drivers manually as xp should automatically do it once you can finally 'see' it and connect to it. Because your printer is going to be attached to the desktop, both the printer and the desktop need to be on and not in standby modes at all times whenever you are trying to connect/install/print...

on my desktop pc.. i clicked my network places and then i clicked view workgroup computers i saw that my notebook was on the workgroup.. i tried to doubleclick it but i got an error message sayin something about connect my network administrator

i came onto my notebook and did the exact thing; clicking network places, then clickin view workgroup computers; however, i saw nothing..

what does this mean and what do i have to do from here to have my printer networked?
