Can someone please tell me what this means and if I can correct it? I installed Win XP Home over Win98. The printer is HP DeskJet 842C. Also, do I need to use a USB cable to the printer with XP or will parallel work? Thanks

not sure if this is what you are looking for
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314864

the other question is have you updated the drivers for printer because that may be the problem

just my curiousity here but

to see if drivers are missing or unrecognised:

runbox command
- press keyboard buttons: winkey + r
- paste this in slot: devmgmt.msc
- press: enter
- see if there are any yellow blobs of the device
- if so you will need to update drivers
