Dear Geekstogo,
This is my first time using your site & I don't have a lot of experience with computers.I hope I'm in the right place to post this topic.
I have Windows XP system that had HP Director Program installed when I purchased it. I went to use it today & it would not open then I searched all files & folders & found the shortcut only. My ASD son may have deleted the program & if so, how do I find out, can I get it back( without the installation disk) & is there a way to prevent access to program content/control?
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Did you by any chance download and install IE7?

I have been warning folks in several forums that IE7 and HP psc all-in-one printers have a compatability problem. If you open the Director it will not show on your desktop but look in Task Manager and see if it is listed as a running process (hpqdirec.exe).

Some dll files associated with IE7 don't agree with HP psc printer software. Hp is well aware of this and promise to release a patch, but I won't hold my breath. This is not Microsoft's fault. Microsoft warned companies as HP that IE7 would be released and to be sure their software would be compatible with it. Typical HP dragging it' feet.

I had this problem with Director and went through h_ll trying to figure out a fix for the problem. Uninstalled HP printer software and reinstalled did no good.

Finally figured out on my own IE7 was the problem (more like contributing to the problem). Uninstalled IE7 and got HP Director back. Only problem was the Director recognized my R707 camera but not my PSC 2210v printer. Had to force the Director to recognized the printer by going into the registry and do a little coaxing, quite a trick.

If you do have IE7 installed, to uninstall it go to Add/Remove Programs and be sure at the top "Show Updates" is checked since IE7 is hidden. Uninstall in the normal fashion. This will revert you automatically back to IE6.
