Yes I want to know if I download a zip file, and then scan it, and it detects a virus, can it hurt anything, as long as it's not opened? And then just delete the zip file. thanks

Yes. Usually it is like that, unless it has some wierd auto-extractor which i doubt it has.

just delete it and it shouldn't bother you

A zip under XP can and will be auto extracted if you doubleclick it.
Also a file can seem to have a .zip extension, but in reality be something else.

If you download or send malware zipped, password potect the files to be safe.
Only get them from a reliable source and never run them on a computer you need for work, school or fun.

Regards,

Thanks for the tips, I know to scan these things before I open them, but like you said just because it says it has a zip ex dont mean it is.
