Okay I have run Windows Defender, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Spybot. Can't get rid of this stuff...
I knew I had spyware before I installed IE 7 but upgraded anyways and came to a new issue. If I start IE 7 from the desktop, it opens then about 5 seconds later it closes. I have found a workaround for this by going to IE 7 settings from the Desktop and then going to Manage Add On's and disabling the PMKJI.DLL browser helper object.
That was fine for a few days now when I open my homepage, it automaticaly redirects me to http://www.eupdatepage.com/. I now have a Critical System Error warning flashing next to my time. I have been reading through the Geeks to Go forum and finally decided to try this so here is the Hijack This log.
If I am missing anything, please let me know.
Thank you ahead of time, and here we go.
Thanks
Ted

Hello again Quasited.

I think some of your infections are hiding from us. Let's rename Hijack This and get a new log to look at.
  • Let's create a new, more permanent, home for Hijack This so it may properly make backups.
    • Right click on any open area of your desktop and select New > Folder
    • Name your new folder HJT.
    • Move Hijack This from it's current location to your newly created folder.
  • Rename Hijack This.
    • Right Click on Hijack This and select rename.
    • Change the name to AnalyseThat.exe
  • Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
  • Post Logs
    • New Hijack This Log

Not a problem.
Followed the instructions and here you go. Already notice a few things that are causing the issue, but won't do anything until you say.
Thanks again.

Looks like they showed their ugly head. Let's get the worst ones in the first passes.
  • Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
  • Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlog...processutil.htm
  • Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
  • Post Logs
    • vundofix.txt
    • Smitfraud Results
    • New Hijack This Log

Okay here are the reports. Getting a lot of popups after running the VundoFix, but I think this is due to the other files getting wiped by VundoFix...

Here they are. By the way Windows Defender asked if I wanted to allow c:\windows\system32\gebcb.dll. I told it yes (it was shortly after reboot, I am suspicious that this is a rerun of the pmkji.dll with a different name. Lets kill these things... :-)

Thanks

Hello again, Quasited

By the way Windows Defender asked if I wanted to allow c:\windows\system32\gebcb.dll. I told it yes (it was shortly after reboot, I am suspicious that this is a rerun of the pmkji.dll with a different name.

Yeah, that is part of the infection. We'll get it manually and clean what smitfraud found.
  • Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be available to you at certain points of the removal process (while in Safe Mode). Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
  • We must disable the Real-Time Protection feature of Windows Defender for it may interfere with the changes we need to make.
    • Go to "Tools" | "General Settings"
    • Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
    • Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection (recommended)"
    • Remember to reactivate this feature when we have finished all our work.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
    • Copy&Paste the entry below into the top box:
      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebcb.dll
    • Click Add Files and Click Close Window
    • Click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
  • Run Smitfraud
    • Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
    • Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
    • Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
    • You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
    • The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll.
    • Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.
    • A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please
      do it yourself manually.
    • The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
  • Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.

I have not had any popups as of yet, my first home page is now MSN.com (should be blank, but no prgram is perfect), IE 7 now opens without having to disable a dll file, and I no longer have those annoying icons down in the bottom right corner.
I was not able to copy the line into VundoFix, but it still found the dll and killed it.
Looks like you have done it.
Thank you for your help, it was much appreciated.
From a Windows Certified Technician, Thank you

I have not had any popups as of yet

:whistling: That's what we're shootin' for.

my first home page is now MSN.com (should be blank, but no prgram is perfect)

The tool has no way of knowing what it used to be. You can easily change this through the Tools feature of you browser.

IE 7 now opens without having to disable a dll file, and I no longer have those annoying icons down in the bottom right corner.

Both good news. :help:

Thank you for your help, it was much appreciated.

You welcome, however, we're not done just yet. Let's get rid of a few of the Hijack This Entries that are left and get an unistall list before we run a scan.
  • Make sure Windows Defender is still disabled.
  • Let's get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
    • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
    • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
    • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
    • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.
  • Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below being careful to get only these:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B9414A43-4A68-4F94-8589-B34EF8ED5157} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkji.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E2821339-F460-412B-ADD6-8111E394C856} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebcb.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: &VSAdd-in - {74DD705D-6834-439C-A735-A6DBE2677452} - C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in\VSAdd-in.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Exit Hijack This.
  • Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.

Looking good Quasited

Let's get a few entries from the uninstall list and get a scan in.
  • Display Hidden Files Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
  • Remove Questionable Programs. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to and highlight each of the following programs and select uninstall/remove:
    • 888Bar
    • VSAdd-in for Internet Explorer
  • Delete Files/Folders
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

    C:\Program Files\888Bar
    C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in

  • Update Java:

Click here to download the latest version of java ( Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 ). Please install it and then reboot your computer.
