Hello everyone,

I am in need of a quick guide on how to Format a PC with Windows 2000 installed. If anyone has a link to a nice guide or could post the steps for me, it would be greatly appriciated.

I do have the Windows 2000 disc as im sure I will need it. I just need to know exactly what to do since I have never done this before.

Thanks to anyone willing to help me, I know you all here work for free :whistling:

I dont believe it is. It just says Windows 2000 on the Startup screen and on the disc.

Wouldnt the process pretty much be the same for either of them though?

You should really read this article. It has good information on what to backup and write down before you do a reformat.

http://www.auldfart.co.uk/format.html

The later half of the above website needs some redoing so i would'nt pay much attention to that part. What i wanted you to read was the part about finding out what hardware you have in your computer. So now you need to read this website on installing Win 2000.

You should be able to get thru a install with the above site. I don't agree with him on using a DOS prompt to format. You can usually justput the windows cd in a drive and boot up to the cd and install. If you don't wipe the previous windows off the drive you will need to tell the computer this is a new install.

Personally i like fdisking and formatting the drive before installing a OS.

A clean install is the way i like installing as there are no problem with old data, viruses, etc on a clean drive.

By the way Win 2000 installs exactly the same as the pro edition.
