I recently had my computer rebuilt including processor, power supply, motherboard, etc. After this, my 2 cd-rom drives worked fine. Now, four months later, neither works.

The original that came with my computer says "compct disc".....50X Max
The second drive is an internal "HP CD-Writer + 9300

What do I need to do to get them back?

Thanks........Paul Bayha

Hi hippiemind
Welcome to geeksto go
It may be that the drives for you cd rom got messed up Lets try this go to your hardware setting right click on my computer on your desktop a dropdown window will show up click on properties a window will open click on device manager tab click the plus sign next to cdroms it should show two of them in a dropdown list high light one at a time with your pointer on the highlight right click and a dropdown box will show up click uninstall do this for both. close down all open windows then restart your computer windows will reinstall drivers for your cd roms when it reboots the 50x cdrom should be fine with the windows drivers. but the hp cd writer will need the hp drivers. do you have the cd that come with your HP CD-Writer + 9300? if you do you will need to restall the drives off the cd for hp cd writer if not here is the hp site for drivers and software for you hp cd writer click here
if you need help on how to download the things here repost and we can help you do this.

Thanks for your help on this....

When I went to the "device manager" it only showed the HP unit. I uninstalled it and then restarted my computer. After doing so, neither cd-rom showed up in the device manager. I went to the HP site but do not know what item I have to download to get my HP back. Seems that most of the options there directed me to buy new software. Do I have to do this, or is there a download there that I am not seeing?

Is there also some other way to recover the 50x cdrom since the reboot did not do it <_< ?

Thanks again...............

Hi
When you rebooted your system did any of the cdrom come back in your device manager? if not your plug and play may be turned off a other way for windows to find your hardware is to go to controll panel in there click on add new hareware and search for cd-roms I can not find them on the hp site so here is other sites for drivers drivers.com
cdrom drivers.com

Nothing came back in my device manager after rebooting. I have found my disc for the hp9300, but without my original 50x drive working I have no place to use it .

Any other ideas to get my 50x back?

Thanks again for your help............

Hi
in controll panel use your add hareware to reinstall the 50X cd-rom you can search for it and have windows try to find it or you can do it yourself in there picking from a list if you help on doing this just post asking on how to do and i will post a step by step for you.
