Hello -

My Mom's computer has slowed down so bad it barely works. I ran all of the programs in the "read this first" post, many infections show up but I cannot clean the computer. Also, somehow AOL safety and security center is installed on the computer and I cannot uninstall it, I also cannot uninstall McAfee, I would like to get rid of it because I have a paid version of Norton Antivirus. FaMaK,

I'm sorry you haven't gotten a reply prior to this, but we're volunteers and we're all extremely busy; some new infections have come out that are extremely difficult to get rid of.

I don't see much in the way of malware, other than the funweb, but your PC is probably slow because of the multiple antivirus programs. I'd like you to go here to try running the McAfee Removal Tool. Once that's complete, we'll see how that affects performance and look at the other issues you have.

Thank you very much for your response and help. I ran the program that you suggested, the computer seems to be running ok, however, I have tried several times to reinstall AOL and I keep getting an error message that a program on my c drive does not exist "acsd.exe" and the install does not work. The acsd.exe file is a necessary file for AOL. How are you re-installing it? You might need to re-download from AOL's site and try it from there. This is part of the Connectivity Service. It should be in c:\program files\common files\aol\acs. Let me know if you're still having problems.

Thanks - I ended up running trendhouseware (sp?) virus scan and it picked up some other viruses. I was then able to load AOL and everything seems to be running great.
