I am running Windows xp-service pack 2. Have a Sony Vaio model #PCV620G desktop. My sound card is SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio.

My problem is my internal microphone. I tried using yahoo messenger to talk to another peson and it has worked in the past, but now all I hear from my speaker is a constant humming sound. Almost as if there is feedback from something.

If I test my sound hardware, the microphone lights(you know how it should move levels from green to red as it recognizes your voice) well, before I begin and w/o talking- it is all lit up from the buzzing noise.

I have went into the sound recorder and just pressed record and the playback is the buzz noise.

I have tried to uninstall my sound device , and restarted my computer then it came up saying new hardware found -soundmax- and it was installed and working fine, but the humm noise is still there.

To make it stranger, this problem has occurred once before. I solved it somehow by reinstalling the drivers - although it didn't fix immediately. What I mean is, after restarting my computer it didn't help, but somehow later it just went away. Then, it worked fine for a couple iof days and when trying to start up my media player it wouldn't work and i got an error message- can't remember error number but the error had to do w/ windows media player 11. So, I tried to rollback media player, and still the problem. I ended up removing windows media player all together and i got the microphone to work again.

Last night, I installed media monkey media player and now my microphone is experiencing the same humming noise.

My current state is where I have the noise which makes my microphone not work, I uninstalled media monkey, I restored my computer to the point yesterday where my microphone worked, but its not fixed.

Seems to me like when I install a media player it conflicts with the microphone and it maybe shares something and the microphone is picking up an overload noise or something. That was just a suggestion from me - who knows not much about the system configuration or how to fix anything.
Can anyone help please?
