Anderwolf,

I'm sorry you've been kept waiting. However, I notice that twice last January you asked for help, and then didn't follow through until your computer had been declared clean. Since we're all volunteers here, and we have many people that need our help, we tend to be reluctant to offer help to someone who may not stay with us until they're clean. Your warning level was raised due to abandoning previous threads. I will offer to help you this one time, but you must continue to respond until the problems have been resolved.

The biggest problem I see is not malware-related. You currently have two anti-virus programs running on your PC - Avast and Mcafee. This can definitely slow down your system, as multiple anti-virus programs conflict with one another. You need to decide which one you would like to keep and uninstall the other one. My personal preference is Avast; however, if you have a paid subscription to McAfee and it's up-to-date, then I would recommend you keep that one.

Please uninstall one of these and then post a new hijackthis log and let me know if your performance improves.

Thanks,

sari

Hello and thanks so much for replying to me! Yes im terribly sorry about the previous posts.. I was dealing with a few computers that belonged to other people and well things didnt work out very well.. but I definitely know how time consuming it can be to troubleshoot viruses and things.. so I really do appreciate u guys helping me.. but anyways.
I actually didnt install Avast until after I was having problems because my Mccaffee keeps shouting about being expired and it even got turned off by itself a few times (which i read was one of the symptoms of the trojan thing i had) So i got avast in hopes of finding a reliable antivirus program that wouldnt cost me anything immediately at least. And i know how much 2 antivirus programs can clash.. but Avast didnt seem to be making any difference performance wise and even found a few things. But i deleted it now. Also I believe i deleted a trojan and also the Soundman.exe program that i read was associated with the W32/agabot-js worm. Now my computer runs ok most of the time but it goes into fits of being VERY slow. i notice most when trying to scroll through my music or if i have more than 1 music folder open. But with my computers stats i should have absolutely NO slowness like that. In case it matters here are my computers stats.
Gateway GT5056
250 GB hard drive
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 3800+
2.00GHz 1.00GB of RAM
physical address extension

So as you can see i should have no problems with slowness. Also i dont know if this is at all related but something wierd has been happening with my windows media player and my internet explorer windows. sometimes when I clearly make my IE window active and then start clicking, it clicks on whatever is behind the window rather than whats on the actual IE window. but the problem is fixed by just minimizing the window and bringing it back a few times. And with the windows media player, after having it open for random periods of time, the screen goes blank. All the buttons and tabs are still visable and clickable, but they do nothing and all of the visual window stays blank. but songs that are playing continue to play and again just exiting the program and re opening it fixes the problem. But I cant figure out whats causing it and hoped u could give me some insight on that as well. Anyways sorry this is so long and here is my fresh hijack this log. Thanks again !!!

Does this mean your McAfee is not up-to-date? If that's the case, it won't do you much good, and I would recommend you uninstall McAfee and reinstall Avast.

You have this entry in your log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE

This is a valid Soundman.exe file - it is the System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. While there is a soundman.exe that is related to a virus, there would be additional signs in your log that I'm not seeing. However, to be on the safe side I'm going to have you run an online virus scan.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
Also, please do this:

Please print these directions before continuing since we will be rebooting the computer into Safe Mode and these instructions will not be available.

Download WinPFind.exe to your desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. This will create a folder named WinPFind on your desktop.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Double-click on the WinPFind folder on your desktop to open it and then double-click on the WinPFind.exe file to start the program.

Now click the Start Scan button to begin the scan.

When the scan is complete reboot normally and post the WinPFind.txt file (located in the WinPFind folder) back here along with a new HijackThis log and I will review the information when it comes in.

I need to see the Activescan log, a new hijackthis log, and the winpfind log in your next reply. Also, please verify that your McAfee is up-to-date.

Thanks,

Hi again. So sorry about the wait super busy lately.. but I have attached the 3 scan logs you asked for, as well as a screen shot of my mcaffee. I wasnt sure if I should get rid of it or not because it still seems to be providing some protection such as antivirus and firewall. But it always tells me that "spamkiller" is not active. So I took a screen shot so that you could hopefully tell me whether to get something new or not. thanks again and have a happy new year!
let me know if you have trouble with the attachments.
