Keep loosing old window when in email

Every time my mother reads her email. it closes the window that was opened before it. The back button does not work and wont keep track of her emails in new windows. Could someone give me some advice on what to try to get this solved for her. Thank you.

It would help us to know how Mom gets her email- Outlook Express? Does she use XP? Has she got a lot of stored email inside OE? Or is mom trying to use a webmail service like Yahoo or GMail? I'm sure we can help, but you need to give us some more specifics.
