I got the VX2.BetterInternet garbage, and it was anything but better. It constantly hijacked my browers and homepage, and added tons of junk links to my favorites and icons to my desktop. Plus I had to reboot everytime I used my computer.

The Kill2Me uninstaller didn't even phase it. I also have Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Spyblaster, Window Washer, CWShredder, but nothing worked. I could make things go away temporarily, but as soon as I opened another browser window, or rebooted, it would start all over with the files back in place. This bug was on my computer like white on rice.

I think I finally got rid of it thanks to the fine people here. In Windows safe mode, I used the the Hijack This program to remove the offending entries, plus a few manual file removals. Now all seems back to normal. Thanks Geeks to Go!

I got it installed (who knows where from) and after 20+ hours trying everything possible to I eventually figured out what it was, and then tried their uninstaller. It stopped the ads from coming up, but ruined many other settings, the most important of which was disabling (or probably more accurately not reenabling) my c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file which I need since I need to access webserver behind my NAT via their domain addresses (www.<domain address>.com). I can do it other ways, but after realizing this file wasn't working I figured more than likely many other things were still broken, so I re-formatted and re-installed. I only wish I could figure out exactly where it came from so I do not have this issue again. Additionally, after uninstalling my computer ran at only 30-50% of the speed it ran before the infection. I run a lot of high intensity (100% CPU usage) calculations in my own programs, so I have a great ability to measure benchmarks on my personal computer.

BTW - As far as I could tell, the server IP address this program connects to for poping up the adds (the loading window which appears in the system tray) when it runs is 69.20.62.53, is registered to nictechnetworks.com . Since their domain registration does not include a real address, isn't it possible for the registrar to revoke their domain name?

I don't know how I suddenly became infected with Look2Me (and, BTW, at least four other advertising spyware "products", such as BargainBuddy), but I've spent most of the last day tracking them down and trying to get them removed from my machine. I finally ran across the Look2Me Uninstaller (URL given herein), and downloaded it, but running it only gets me the following error:

...and that's it. Thanks, anyway, but... Not very helpful. :-(

And other ideas for how to get rid of this monstrosity? (Short of wiping my machine?)

BTW, it is just me, or is this same obnoxious ad-product also monitoring and updating my computer's hosts file to map various valid search domain names onto localhost, and map various other domain names onto 69.20.16.183?
