i'm getting the error

file.xls is locked for editing

it wont let me open it unless its in read-only mode. last time i found a very quick fix online that involved just clicking a few buttons and it worked... but i cant find it now for some reason. i didnt have to do anything to the server, clear any temp files, or anything like that. it was changing something in excel i think. any ideas?

please :whistling:

is this a file located on a file server or is it saved locally? does it say who has it locked?

it is located on a server. it says who has it locked, but they do not have it open, and in fact have never opened the file

log onto the server....right click on "my compute"r and choose "manage"...expand the "shared folders" section on the left side and click on "open files" find the file on the right side...right click it and choose "close open file"

thanks so much!

looks like a remote citrix user had lost their citrix connection and not gotten back in, therefore leaving the file locked.

strange though, last time it was such a quick fix for this problem... i changed the macros security or something and then was able to open it right back up...

anyway, thanks very much for your help, greatly appreciated!
