when i take a screenshot of the video it just turns blank

What basically happens is the video turns into strange inverted colours, almost like those colours u see in ultraviolet mode u know where warm colours are represented by red, cooler colours by blue, etc. it happens on windows media player, VLC and nero

so i reckon something is messed up!!

what do i do

Hi, welcome to this site
remember we are working blind so bare with us
to help others reply to your question
if you haven't mentioned it yet:
- what model of computer
- what os, XPpro or home
- how old is it

to topic then, some questions
- does this happen on all type of codex for the programs, meaning that it may be the wrong codex here,
(the codex is the video format)
- what happens if you uninstall and then reinstall those programs
