Hello

My pc has recently recovered from a serious malware problem. Unfortunately, now I can't get my printer to reinstall. My printer is a HP Photosmart 8050 which has previously been working on the same pc. Frequently got messages from microsoft saying that there was an problem and hp software was the problem, therefore when pc was playing up I uninstalled the software to see if that would help. It didn't.

After malware problem was resolved I tried to reinstall printer using software download from hp website but keep getting errors. These include:

Windows could not load the installer for Volume. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance.

Print spooler service not running

RPC server unavailable

I have accessed services.msc and made sure print spooler is on auto and started but still get error message.
I don't know what else to try. I hope somebody can help me.

Thanks in advance

Have you checked in services that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service is started and set to automatic?

just double checked in services and RPC is started and set to auto. print spooler is also set to auto but it won't stay running. it starts but then switches itself off again.

Here's a good discussion on the topic. I think this may help you out.

Tried everything suggested in that discussion. 2 issues have arisen.

First no drivers listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Envirnments\WindowsNTx86.

Second, when install wizard gives error message it now says unable to find specified path instead of RPC server unavailable.

Also still keep getting message saying Windows could not load the installer for Volume. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance. Is this related to the printer problem?

Double click on the RPC Service. The path to the executable should be C:\Windows\System32\svchost -k rpcss. Edit if necessary.

The path for Spooler Service should be C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe

Click start then search to look for spoolss

Include hidden and system files, there should be 3

If you do not have any or all, right click the taskbar, click task manager, click file, click new task, type sfc /scannow then press enter

Search for spoolss again
