I have a desktop with an NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440 graphics card as the main display adapter. When I try to run the LiveCD with either Dapper (6.06) or Edgy (6.1), it gets partway through the process, then the screen goes black. Not the black like its turned off, but just nothing to display. Is there any way I can fix this, so I can get into the Live system and the installer?

I've run across this on some distros, both the live CD and the install. What happens is it misrecognizes your video card and installs the wrong drivers. If you look at the bottom of the screen during boot you may see some options. Look for VGA and press the key for that. You will get some lousy 640x480 resolution but at least you can use it. If you do a full install just make sure you only have the VGA drivers loaded, then you can go to the Nvidia website to install the correct drivers.

Resolved, thank you. It was a driver issue with my NVIDIA card.
