the machine i'm using is IBM NetVista runing windows 98 and everytime i try to play an audio or movie file it does not play back saying theres was error=80040256

Hello!

According to this article you have Card problem. Or a driver problem.
Do you have other players? Do they work?

Anyway... success. Hope this helps.
