Hello, and thank in advance for your help.

I've tried all of the things you suggested in the "Click Here before posting" topic. I don't know the name of this spyware/malware program as there seems to be different titles and the description of the webpage that pops up is the only thing that remains constant. Here is my strange but frustrating problem:

I am unable to navigate to websites for the United Kingdom (websites that end in co.uk). This includes google.co.uk, ebay.co.uk, viewlondon.co.uk and gumtree.co.uk. I can navigate to webpages that end in .com, .net etc...but as I live in the U.K. I need to access co.uk websites. Al websites that end in co.uk take me to a search engine that has a different web address but always has this statement:

This "search engine" seems to randomly suggest popular "topics" ie, lake tahoe real estate, pocket watches for sale or swamp canoing etc...and has links which I have not followed...

Anyway, I've run hijack this and here is the log:

Hi again

Please download F-Secure BlackLight
  • Save BlackLight to your desktop.
  • Rightlick blbeta.exe and rename it to bl.exe
  • Double-click bl.exe then accept the agreement.
  • Click > Scan then > Next
  • After the scan you'll see a list of all items found. Please click Next and exit. Don't choose to rename anything yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there.
  • There will be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (where the xxxxxxx are numbers)
Please post the contents of this log in your next reply.

Hi :whistling:

I was checking to see if you have a newer strain of a certain infection. I'm still not convinced you dont. Lets try the old fix and then we will check some things.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Run HijackThis. Click "Do a System Scan Only", and place a check next to the following items (if found):

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{28FE1B34-6BB2-4811-9E6A-5661A7976180}: NameServer = 85.255.116.108,85.255.112.199

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F302C7F0-7FA1-412F-A911-84C6F77D1004}: NameServer = 85.255.116.108,85.255.112.199
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F7C6573E-0D1F-454E-B21D-021BCB181371}: NameServer = 85.255.116.108,85.255.112.199
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Extensions - C:\WINDOWS\system32\f02mlaf11d2.dll (file missing)

Click FIX CHECKED. Close HijackThis.

Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

Hi again

Please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following lines for removal:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

Now close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis.

Lets try this one to find a hidden file I suspect is there, Its a little better than blacklight in my opinion

Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Download GMER from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and rename it to GM.exe start GM.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Warning! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results here in your next reply.

loophole,

I started GM.exe and ran the scan twice and both times my screen went blank and didn't start up again. I restarted the computer, should I have waited longer after it went blank? That said, however, I can now visit those sites I couldn't visit before. So, although I couldn't get a copy of the scan from GMER to post here, it seems to have worked. Let me know if you want me to run the scan again and wait longer. If not I'll see how things go and whether or not I start to have the same problem again. Either way thanks so very much for your help and for solving the problem. This is a great site and it is very gracious of you to use your knowledge to help out. I can't say thanks enough....

thanks again,

Peter

Hi

Strang about Gmer. You may be good to go but can you post the following log for me

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Lets move to the last step

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report along with a new hijackthis log.
