I have followed all of the steps with the "Start Here" thread. For approximately the past two to three weeks, Firefox will not load on my laptop. When I click on Firefox, it acts as if it loads (and the process does appear to run according to the Task Manager), but the browser does not appear to actually load on my screen. So, I have been having to use Internet Explorer. Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox did not work for me either.

Two days ago I ran into another problem. My system will not recognize my wireless connection at home. A user of another laptop in my home has no problems with connecting to the connection. (No wireless networks appear in the available wireless networks screen.) I have been having to use a direct connection using cords to connect to our cable internet. No spyware, malware, viruses, etc. were identified using the scans.

Any assistance would be greatly, greatly appreciated, as I am going out of town tonight and wireless will probably be my only connection choice where I am going.

* I don't see anything in your Hijack This log or your explanation of the problem that would lead me to believe that your problem is malware related. You should start a new topic in the Networking forum for the problem of your wireless network not working:

http://www.geekstogo...orking-f11.html

* I do however see a few things in the log and the uninstall list that need attention so I will go ahead and deal with those here.

* The first thing that I'll point out is the fact that you have too many anti-spyware apps running. You have all the following running:

Windows Defender
Spybot
AVG Anti-Spyware
SpywareGuard

You shouldn't have them all running at the same time. They are all trying to do the same job. This is overkill, quite unnecessary and can cause various problems. Pick the one you want to use and disable the others. If I were you, I'd go with AVG-Antispyware.

Note: SpywareBlaster is OK to leave running with whichever one of those four you choose to use as your protection.

* Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall these old versions of Java:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

* Now go here and install the latest version of Java.

** Before you proceed with the removal directions below you need to turn off the realtime protection in Windows Defender and Spybot's Tea-Timer. They will interfere with the changes we are trying to make.
  • Open Windows Defender and click on Tools > General Settings.
  • Scroll down and remove the check by "Turn on realtime protection (recommended)".
  • Click "Save"
  • Restart your computer.
  • Leave it disabled until we are finished here.
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
  • If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, Click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer.

* Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Thanks for the tips, Flrman! I followed all of the steps. Also, I took some troubleshooting steps to fix the wireless connectivity issues. I am still working on the FF issue... a very odd issue.

Again, thanks! :whistling:
