We have 3 Windows 2000 computers at work and none of them can install programs

The instant that Windows Installer starts, the computer re-boots.

One computer cannot access any files without this happening. We attempted to open an exel file and Windows
installer starts and the computer re-boots.
When we attempt to open a word document, it says there is no program associated with it.

If you physically go into the Office program folder, open the program, then it will let you open a file.

If we go into a program off the Start Menu, windows installer starts up and causes a re-boot.

My computer is running Windows XP and I am not having any of these problems.

I have gone into regdt32 and given full permission but it doesn't correct this.

It is very frustrating and I would appreciate any help!

I downloaded the file and ran everything but it still won't work.

I tried a windows update and the computer re-booted.

Any other suggestions?

You could also try "Big Fix" which corrects any problems with your system. Just update it by pushing the "gather" button after downloading. Good luck. http://www.majorgeek...igFix_d677.html

I'm going to try the other fix when I get to the office.
Actually, the exel problem just started last week.
The system was installed last February and none of the computers can install programs with windows installer.
I assumed that he put controls on them denying access to do so but he said no.
The other 2 computers are having no problems opening exel or word documents.
Even if I go into view File types, the installer begins and causes a re-boot.

I'll let everyone know whether the other suggestion re a Fix works!

Well, I tried the 'Big Fix'.....didn't work.

Some of the Fixes needed to install.

As soon as the Windows Installer came up, the computer re-booted again.

It's me again!

Just thought I would let everyone know I finally solved the problem with the Windows Installer.

I went into Control Panel and uninstalled it from the system. I had downloaded a new on to install.

Then, when I went to open a document, it reconfigured and works great now!! I didn't even need to install the one I downloaded.
