I startup my computer and one of two things happens. A)It goes to the operating system logo and the logo is warped on top of itself and then the screen goes black. B) It goes, just really slowly trhough the startup until everything is done. Some things Ive noticed is that Windows media player seems to shut down screen when I open it, and that my fan may or may not be working (I've looked at and it runs... but it doesnt feel like is cools very well.) Others have told me that it sounds like my computer is overheating, i just dont know for sure. Any help would be appreciated, Ill post a HiJackThis log soon to help.

Download and install Everest: http://www.majorgeek...wnload4181.html

Launch it, and under "Computer", click "Sensor". What does it say for your temperatures?

29 Degrees celsius. My dad installed a new fan, i was just wondering if the problem had anything at all to do with a virus or anything like that installed on the computer. I'll tell you if the problem reoccurs.

I changed my fan, and the problem reoccured. The computer works fine for about ten minutes, then the screen goes blank. The last temperature reading I got was 31 degrees celsius. I was wondering if it could be that the hardware itself is damaged from overheating before I installed the new hardware. thanks for the help.

31 degrees is perfect, that isn't overheating.

Do you have a valid XP cd?

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below

Start > Run > cmd then type

sfc /scannow (note the space)

let this run untill you get a message saying it is complete.

sfc - system file checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.

If you want to see what was replaced, right click My Computer > manage, expand event viewer > system.

My dad replaced the video card, and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the help though.
