A few days ago my laptop overheated and shut down multiple times [I did allow for a cool-off period between starting the laptop up again]. I allowed the computer to run the automatic checks it sometimes does when the laptop shuts off unexpectedly.
But a couple of days ago upon logging into my XP profile I received a pop-up informing me the virtual memory was too low and Windows had automatically created a temporary paging file for me, it gave me instructions on how to fix this so I followed these instructions.
So I set the recommended minimum [718MB] and doubled it for the limit, I restarted my laptop.
Upon logging in again I received the pop-up again, so after seeking some help elsewhere I tried disabling the pagefile completely, restarting [When restarting with no pagefile I did not receive the pop-up] and setting new limits, but I continued to receive the pop-up messages.
I've tried setting different limits [I have more than 2GB free on my C: Drive so I don't think that's the problem] but continued getting the pop-up.
Then I noticed in the Windows Task Manager that under the Commit Charge (K) [From what I can tell this is my Pagefile] limit was set to only 673,084, which is well below even the minimum size I set. Whenever the commit charge has reached the limit I've received warnings about low memory.
No matter what I do, I can't find any way of raising the limit [I've tried editing the Min/Limit in regedt32 too].
The only real effect this is having is that I can't play a game because of the lack of virtual memory, and I could probably survive without playing the game, but it's a problem I'd like to solve nonetheless.
I hope I've given enough information, thanks for any help.
