Hi,

This site has been very usefull and gave me my IE back, by following the instructions on the malware removal page.

another good tool is hitman pro, check it out.
A problem keeps annoying me

I cant acces the add/remove programs in the control panel. Clicking it doesnt open it.
I suspect spyware guard caused some of the trouble although I might be mistaking.

I also cannot update windows maybe this is related to the above problem.

Here s the log

Your help is greatly appreciated;

Hi gnu
A few things need you to do, First I see 2 Anti Virus programs running, This is not a good idea as it is likely to cause you some conflicts, Please remove one and make sure the other is updated and current,

Next,
Dowload the following program
CWShredder
It should be the current version, but check for updates
Run Program cwshredder and have it fix anything it finds.
Make sure you click the “Fix” button

Close out the program after it has finished running please,

Next,
Please disable,
Winpatrol as it may interfer with the removal of the items in HJT,

Next,

Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click “Fix Checked”

Hi Don,

Thx for the swift reply.
I dont know if the symantec antivirus is still running, it sure isnt up to date so the only actual antivirus software is from avg.
Problem is that i can`t uninstall symantec.
I tried to access my control panel but no effect when clicking the `add/remove programs` button
I downloaded the latest version of cwsdhredder, still there was nothing to fix.
I checked off the items u told me, disabled winpatrol and here` s the new log;

I have NIS 7.0.6.17 but have replaced it with AVG+winpatrol.
This seems to work fine.

The computer runs fine in general, but I still can`t open my add/remove programs and this is pretty anoying.

I guess there must be something in there that doesnt want to be wiped ;-)

So thx for all the help, if you would be able to get my control panel back in order you would make me very happy.

Maybe it's Norton's :tazz:
Seriously we need to get you access to your Add/Remove programs Thats where we want to remove it from

Lets look a little deeper here
Click here: http://www.downloads.../DllCompare.exe to download DLLCompare.zip.

Save it to your desktop.

Now run DllCompare and click on the RunLocate.com button. It will scan for the hidden files. When it is finished, you will see in blue Completed the scan, Click Compare to Continue at which time you will click the Compare button.

It will sort through the files it found and determine which should be flagged as "No access" and display them in the lower box.

In a few minutes it will complete then you will see in blue Completed.
Click the Make a Log of what was Found button. It will ask if you want to view the logfile. Click Yes then copy and paste that log in your next reply.

Hi again gnu,

Please download and unzip
About:Buster to a folder. Inside the folder is a readme file that has instructions on the use of the program.
AboutBuster MUST be updated before you use it.
Start AboutBuster, click the update button, check for update, drag the box to the side and hit download updates,

Hi Don,

Since the aboutbuster reported nothing I decided to reinstall W2K.
Then I downloaded and installed the latest service pack.
Then it kept asking me for the MSIredist.msi file.
I found that on http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

What do you know; I got my control panel back!
So I uninstalled a lot of stuff but I can`t get rid off system mechanic and NIS (cant uninstall the whole symantec deal as a matter of fact)

So I think we went a long way.
Of course I would like to get rid of that software that seems be glued to my HD.
Another strange problem now is that some programs cant access the net (for example hitman pro and automatic updates for windows, adaware,...)
Looks like they get blocked somewhere, maybe due to the latest service pack I installed.

Ok, here` s the latest, I appreciate your help

IT DID!
woohoo! I found a link somewhere on the same site for NIS 2004 and I got rid of it!
Good thing is all the antivrius and antispyware programs as well as windows can now automatically update again.

I m really gratefull for ur help Don.

A minor problem i`m facing now is that i cant log the laptop on to swap files with the pc (via network places in the explorer) it allways tells me `MS Home is not accessible The server is not configured for transactions`. My connection to the internet and mail works fine thru LAN tho and the other way round works as well (exploring laptop via pc).
I reckon it must be something stupid nut haven`t found it so far.

For completeness sake I add the new HJ log;

Ok Looks like you picked up a couple nasties here,

Please open HJT> Click on the Config button> Click >Misc. Tools > Click > Open Process manager> Highlight “
winsystem.exe
MSEXPORT.exe
“ >Click> Kill process
Next click the scan button and put a check mark next to the following, close all open windows , Click “ Fix Checked”

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft AOL Instant Messenger] MSEXPORT.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows_Protect] winsystem.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft AOL Instant Messenger] MSEXPORT.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows_Protect] winsystem.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft AOL Instant Messenger] MSEXPORT.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows_Protect] winsystem.exe

Reboot to safe mode ( by tapping the F8 key on start up ) make sure you can view all hidden folders/files View Hidden Folders search for and delete the following in BOLD

C:\WINNT\system32\winsystem.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\MSEXPORT.exe

Restart your computer, restart HJT and post back a fresh log
