Ok. I am clear that I want Zone Alarm Firewall. As an anti-virus I want BitDefender. Here's my question.

Even though, top ten reviews indicated that Zone Alarm is the best firewall, http://personal-fire...tenreviews.com/

As an Internet Security Suite, they show BitDefender the best. Which includes BitDefender's Firewall. http://internet-secu...tenreviews.com/

Please advise which is the best to get, Separate Zone Alarm Firewall + BitDefender Antivirus

OR

BitDefender Internet Security Suite. :whistling:

I would say get them individually. I know lots of people use zone alarm. Plenty of good support if you ever have questions. I know bitdefender is a decent AV, but Haven't heard much about the rest of thier suit.

I would just suggest to you not to trust to this site http://personal-fire...tenreviews.com/
I have a reason to believe that the reviews are false at this site, or they are not capable for doing an good review. I have seen complaints at forums about this site and here is one of the reports from McAfee Adviser

http://www.siteadvis...et.com/summary/

Merchant issues. [Reported]

Feedback from credible users indicates an overall concern with shopping at this site.

It is connected to this site hermanstreet.com and the report from McAfee is this

When we tested this site we found links to toptenreviews.com, which our analysis found to be deceptive or fraudulent.

Here is a link from a forum where you can see complainants of the users considering toptenreviews.com site

This is a quote taken from the same forum

...this is the way some people earn money. If you carefully scrutinize the "Buy Now" links for the top 5 rated products, you'll see that they all have an Affiliate ID. Which means that the author is getting like 20% commision for each transaction realized via this link.

This is how it works in detail. The author sends an email to 15 AV companies, asking them to become an affiliate partner. Some of them respond, some don't. Then he stitches up a web site with more or less junk info (but "easy to read"! Smiley), comparing the various products on the market, but paying special attention to placing those that he has affiliation for on top places. Last, he starts a modest campaign (typically on Google) to get as much visitors on his site as possible.

Lovely isn't it?

BTW this guy is not confined to AV's - see the main page http://www.toptenreviews.com

This seems like a rehash of their flawed 2004 reviews, whilst it mentioned the Virus Bulletin 100% awards for some other AVs no mention was made about avast's VB100 awards.

There is no date as to when the review took place, other than we see that used an old version of avast (so it is not recent) and there is nothing about how the tests were conducted.

One of the letters that were sent to toptenreviews.com site
http://forum.avast.c...g32939#msg32939

In future be more careful when picking up an site for reviews and shoping

you'd be surprised look for a review its rate high but has caused me more promblems it picked up virues said they where there but cou;dn't do anything. I've used NOD32 2.5 and recently got 2.7 for almsot a year and i ahve been virus and sytem lag free - a little slower startup but due to alot of software :whistling: and using Zonealarm with it works very well, except the anti virus montior doesn't pick up NOD32, but that isn't a issue. Trust me on this

Final results

The final results are available on the result page of our project

The clear winner of our tests was ZoneAlarm PRO. Its security design was the best of all tested products and was nearly perfect. The reason why we did not recommend this product was an extensive number of bugs in the implementation of its security design and other features. ZoneAlarm was almost perfect in all other aspects that are not related to the security. Our review of ZoneAlarm.

Very close to ZoneAlarm with its final score was Outpost, which took the second place in our tests. This product was very modern and was also great in security unrelated aspects. Its security design was quite good but worse than the design of ZoneAlarm. Apart from the security design imperfections, this product had poor implementation in some parts and hence it tended to be unstable or incompatible with other software. Another big problem of this product was its performance. Our review of Outpost.

The third place was taken by Norton. The quality of this product was much worse than the quality of ZoneAlarm or Outpost. The security design was poor and incomplete and problems had appeared since its installation. The enormous complexity of this product resulted in problems with security. Some components did not work well together or were excluded from the security design. The whole solution was half-baked. Our review of Norton.

BlackICE took the fourth place. This product was unusable from the security point of view. Its security design was very poor and its implementation was not better. The performance and the hardware requirements were the only positives of this product. Our review of BlackICE.

The last place was taken by Kerio. This very popular software had a major problem and that was the absence of almost all security elements we would expect in a personal firewall software. Kerio could be classified as an average packet filter with a nice interface, not a personal firewall. Our review of Kerio.

Ok. Thank you everyone. I am going with Zone alarm and either BitDefender or Nod32. Whichever is cheaper. I doubt BitDefender Antivirus will hog more than Norton.

Hey bigdog1100 :help:

Thank you. For the information. I knew about GRC (that's were I test my firewall) but didn't know about the other one.

If you haven't already, check this link too, it is from GRC, but i am posting to you in any case that you haven't found it yet :)
http://www.grc.com/freeware/dcom.htm

..."DCOMbobulator" allows any Windows user to quickly check their system's DCOM vulnerability, then simply shut down the unnecessary DCOM security risk....

...Every Windows user should use our DCOMbobulator to quickly verify the effectiveness of Microsoft's patch. Even though DCOM should be shut down altogether, Windows systems need all the security they can get. So verifying that the known DCOM vulnerability is not still threatening any Windows systems is important...
