Hi stargate and welcome,
Sorry for the late reply, The board can get backed up at times but we will get to you,

Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click “Fix Checked”
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.alltheint....com/search.htm
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.alltheinternet.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = /
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.alltheinternet.com
O16 - DPF: {24311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab

Next Reboot into SAFE MODE Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders search for and delete the files highlighted in BOLD

c:\eied_s7.cab

Restart your computer,

Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

Hi,
thanks very much for the help ;)
I reran HijackThis and checked the items you said and fixed them. When booting in safe mode with hidden files showing and searching for c:\eied_s7.cab and c:\ex.cab nothing came up (also did a wildcard search).

The TrendMicro Housecall found no viruses and malicious ware. the Active scan found viruses and spyware, disinfecting some and not others.

this is my latest hijackthis log. tks,
stargate

Hi,
Clicked 'fix checked" for that item and rebooted into Safe Mode to remove vbsys2.dll just to check if the file was removed...see my virus scan on start-up picked up the file even before i reran HJT and automatically deleted the file. But, as I said, I still went into safe mode to check but vbsys.dll was not in WINDOWS\System32. ;)

In the time I went online to read your reply and post this message on this page i did not experience any adware pop-ups or website redirection to oldgames.se etc. Can I now be hopeful that I am maybe... just maybe, winning this fight? otherwise i am close to :tazz:

Thanks...my latest HJT log:

Great news startgate !!!
Have HJT fix the following same way as above,
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = /
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\

Reboot,

Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean. Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

Then scan again with HijackThis and post another log.

Hi
after the HJT fix ran the two online scans. Housecall found none. Panda Active Scan found 18 infected files and the message said that all virus files have been removed. (my anti-virus also removed alot of trojan-type viruses during this time).

Still no pop-ups and website redirection in the 40 minutes I have been online to do the scans and reply to this! :tazz:

logfile below. thanks, stargate

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,
