Hi dtakehana,
I need to know how many user accounts are on this computer. Does the account you are logged onto have administrator right's?

Logged on as an administrator, follow these insrucions:

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.
1.
(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

How to Turn On and Turn Off System Restore in Windows XP
http://support.micro...kb;en-us;310405
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner
2.
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

hI SARAH,
I did what you told me to, but when the kaspersky tries to download the activeX and the files needed to do the scan, this message eventually shows up saying "Failed to load the kaspersky online scanner activeX control" and that I must have administrator rights and the IE level should be at level medium. The thing is, I have both adm rights and the IE level is set to the lower, or medium as to say... Btw answering your question, I have only one account, administrator that is, and nothing else... I have nevertheless desactivated and activated the system restore like you asked me to do.
What should I do next then, in order to run the scanner??
Thanks!!

Hi dtakehana,
The 'My Web Search' infection is gone, it looks like a seperate problem.
Could you tell me the details of what is happening when you try to log into accounts. Like which/what accounts, what happens, what is stopping you from logging in. Also, you mentioned a messenger problem, do you still have that?

Hi!!
Well the bar pops up in the bottom of my browser and stops me from typing whatever I am about to type - except when I am typing emails (as far as I remember). It appears very randomly, not all the time, so I cannot really tell you when or where it happens - it can be in any site really, as long as it has a field to be filled in. :whistling: The popup contains a blank field, as if it was a search bar, and whatever I am about to type in the original field goes to that *unsolicited* one. Then no matter how I try, if I wait a bit the bar will disappear, but it will show up as I try to type again, unless I close the browser and open it again.
As for the messenger, yes I was still having problems, couldnt sign in, until I upgraded it to windows live messenger. Now everything works fine apparently.

Hi dtakehana,
You have Microsoft Input Message Editor on your computer, it may be corrupted. We'll uninstall it to see if that was the problem and reinstall it later.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IMJPMIG8.1] "C:\WINDOWS\IME\imjp8_1\IMJPMIG.EXE" /Spoil /RemAdvDef /Migration32
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSPY2002] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\PINTLGNT\ImScInst.exe /SYNC
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PHIME2002ASync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\TINTLGNT\TINTSETP.EXE /SYNC
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PHIME2002A] C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\TINTLGNT\TINTSETP.EXE /IMEName

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\IME\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IME\

After that, Reboot.

Post a fresh Hijack This log and give me an update on your problem in your next reply :whistling:
