Thank you for responding. I looked up ALCMTR.EXE befor I go & delete it because I did not want to delete something that would mess something up.

I found this:

WinTasks Process Library

alcmtr - alcmtr.exe - Process Information
Process File: alcmtr or alcmtr.exe
Process Name: Realtek Event Monitor

Description:
alcmtr.exe is a process installed alongside Realtek AC97 audio hardware and provides a monitoring service. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

Recommendation for alcmtr.exe:
Should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly. It is highly recommended to Run a Free Performance Scan to automatically optimize memory, CPU and Internet settings.

[b]Should I still remove it?

Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Sypware" file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers

Ok. I got rid of the ALCMTR.EXE & ran the ATF CLEANER which made my IE explorer run quicker so I thank you for that! :whistling:

But my AOL is not working properly & I have no idea why. I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling it & I even tried restoring the computer a few times which now I sorda wish I didn`t b.c im afraid I have screwed it up more. But its not letting me sign on.

It pops up w. a message saying :

AOL ERROR: (AC-0000)
The computer was unable to connect to AOL

System information: ACS 4.6.61.3; TCP/ IP Connection; Err 0x90000000;
WinXP-SP2; Norton Internet Security

So,, When i try to fit the "FIX IT FOR ME" it pops up w. a message saying:

The Aol software cannot startup correctly.
Please try againm, restart your computer or reinstall the software (WHICH I'VE ALREADY TRIED)

Error starting:
ee://aol/autofix Driver/auto fix Driver Object
Error Code:10

I just hope I can fix what ever is wrong befor my mom freaks out b.c we have just payed $300 to have the computer fixed but I dont know what I did. I just want to thank you though for trying to help!! I really do appreciate it.

here is another HJT log since I got rid of the file.

I wonder if Norton is not allowing you to fix AOL. My knowledge of AOL is very limited. What did you pay to fix on your computer?

Can you try reinstalling AOL with Norton turned off?

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UIUCU] "C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\UIUCU.EXE" -CLEAN_UP -S

Reboot and run ATF again.

Try turning Norton off and fixing AOL. LMK if that helps. :whistling:

Well, befor I recieved your post, I uninstalled the AOL software one more time & reinstalled AOL 9.0 from the AOL site. But befor that on Norton, I went to the Personal Firewall Option & hit configure & then restarted & thats when I installed the AOL software again. It is working now. Not sure what I did to make it work. Hope I didn`t erase or mess anything up of my moms !! !! LoL.

We had to take the computer to Circuit City & they did their diagnostic test & reinstalled Windows & formatted it. He said he found some viruses & other stuff. It costs us 300 dollars. This was done around the End of Sept, beginning of Oct. Im just praying I havent gotten any viruses or anything harmful. This time I will have to pay to fix it.

I do Norton Scans constantly & cleaning the C drive, defraging it, clearing out the history, running Trend Micro free scan, running Ad-Aware b.c I know Norton doesnt alway detect everything. Just last week I started using the HijackThis.

But would u like for me to still
go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Do you use AOL? I think AOLIM gunks your machine up, but that's just my opinion. I only let the kids use it on our old 98.

Well my mom uses AOL more than I do. I usually use it for my e-mail. I do have AIM Triton. My boyfriends brother works on computers for a living not sure of the place he works though. But he is Vice President. But everytime we try to get him to look @ the computer if we think something is wrong, he is too busy. But he is the one who told us that having AOL on startup will slow down the process alot. So when we went to unclick the AOL & anything associated w. it, we checked something that messed it up. So Im not sure.

We use to have Windows 98 b.c she likes that way better but i forget the reason y we don`t have it now. I know the computer we have know which is only atleast 2 years old, she had specially made but i dont think they know what they were doing b.c they didnt put the proper processing fan which i know if u dont have the right one that will also slow down the start up process. So we also had to buy that & we just recently found this out. We havent been able to install it though b.c we dont know how. lol.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
  • Weather Watcher - Free taskbar weather program that is free, malware free, and resource light.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
