I have a AOpen Combo CD-RW/DVD Combo drive, model # COM4824, and it will not play nor detect any DVD disk I place in there, however it will read CDs. I hooked the IDE, power, and audio cable all into it correctly and set it to master..

I really have no clue whats wrong. Can anyone help?

mpfeif101, I merged the reg files. Didn't help, but thank you for your suggestion.

superstar, Everest says that I do have DVD reading support.

Besides setting it to master, I notice that there are 6 pins on the other side of the DVD drive without a cap on it. Does that have anything to do with my problem? If needed I will supply a picture.

Alright, I think I might have found the problem; Decoders. When I got this drive it was just the drive itself, no installition CD or anything. Therefore no decoder software.

What happens when you put a DVD in? Does the computer recognize it as anything or act as if nothing is inside?

The Drive will blink for a bit, but the computer acts as if nothing is inside.

or are you trying to read data from a dvd

I'm trying to read data, but being able to play movies would be a plus, but not important at the moment.

right click on ...my computer...then on properties...hardware tab...then... device manager ...click on the + beside the optical drives..left click on the problem drive..uninstall the drive...reboot and let windows "find " the new hardware...let it do its thing...put in a dvd that you know can read ( in a different computer )...now see if your computer can read it...

what burning software did you burn the data with....

Well, I didn't burn it personally, it's a demo dvd that was in a magizine. I don't have another computer nearby that I can test it if works, but I got it from a friend that could run it fine on his computer. I uninstalled & rebooted and it's still not responding to dvds I instert.

follow the instructions on my previous post...but this time double left click on the problem drive...then the drivers tab and uninstall the drivers...reboot...
no joy....
then go here and get the firmware for that drive....

try different media...+ or - try putting in a movie dvd and let Windows media player try to open it...

I unistalled it that way the first time and I tried to Frimware before I posted this thread. Windows XP Gives me no options as the AutoFix says should happen. It simply doesn't detect DVDs, which makes no sense whatsoever.

I appreciate your help, happyrck. I'm starting to get discouraged, but I'm not about to quit. If nothing works, I'll just have to wait until I can afford a new computer, that I'm already trying to save for.

There has to be something that's going to work.
